Who is Laia Mauri? Laia is a woman who was born in a land of more shadows than lights, a July 46 years ago in the heart of a family from Lleida. Since I was a child I have been a very delicate, loving, sweet person and I loved playing in nature. Curious and restless, at the same time that I was fascinated by learning and knowledge, I grew up in a family with many problems and in which Nature, animals and my surroundings were beautiful to me. My maternal grandmother was a tailor, she had her business in a very difficult time in the history of the country, between wars etc... and where the only daughter she had (my mother) barely grew up with her. People with character, many gifts as great as the immensity but many of them not said or expressed by the time they lived, fears etc.... I grew up among puzzles, art, needles and textiles, I drew every day, I was always creating something different and for them it was: "what an imagination this girl has", in reality I was always making my mark. In fact, I always gave the note, because for me it was normal what for them was not. With a family like that, being an advanced soul, only a woman with solid values and with courage and bravery could do what I did. She trained in Fine Arts (you can see part of her work here) and later as a designer and expert in stage arts: theater, dance, film and TV in some of the most prestigious schools. What she likes is to collaborate with the client in the creation of the character, to make the dresses act, she likes to imagine clothes that create characters and tell stories. Her work goes far beyond making a sketch and translate it into fabric.
